SecureTec ID Solves a Major Problem for Law Enforcement: Limited Access to Biometric Identification

Limited access to technology and lack of cost effective solutions make it difficult for law enforcement to identify the masses in a timely manner.

The Problem

Law Enforcement Officers have had limited access to necessary biometric identification equipment due to its prohibitive cost; however, the need to identify persons of interest and to determine if the subject has a warrant or is otherwise a person of concern is a vital need for Officer Safety. Furthermore, biometric identification equipment is not always reliable nor available since the device is assigned and dedicated for use to one Officer, who may or may not be on duty or available when another Officer has requested an identification.

Other mobile hardware devices have been developed by various vendors (i.e., Crossmatch, Cogent, IB, etc.) but require the purchase of expensive hardware. Operation of this equipment often requires a sign in process, followed by a slow capture technique—-the Officer then must return to his or her vehicle to download and send the images. It is a time-consuming process, which increases the risk to the Officer.

The Solution

The development of a software application placed on each Officer’s or user’s mobile cellular phone that will capture the biometric image of the subject’s fingerprints to an acceptable AFIS standard (NIST Ver. 2015-0715 Final). The captured image will then be submitted directly from the Officer’s phone to an NCIC database (NCIC/NGI) which returns the confirmation results directly back to the Officer’s cellular device, reducing time waiting and increasing Officer Safety.
